Easter celebration reformatted during lockdown

A festive tea is traditionally held to celebrate Easter at Rand Aid’s Tarentaal retirement village.

This year, the coronavirus lockdown put paid to a gathering and the residents who love to dress up as bunnies for the occasion had nothing to look forward to.

The village receptionist, Shelly Joy, put on her thinking cap instead of her Easter bonnet and came up with a safe, alternative way to mark this especially important event on the annual calendar – an Easter card competition.

Residents were requested to create Easter cards that would be judged as then displayed on their post boxes. Personnel from Rand Aid’s head office were roped in as independent judges.

Maria Ferencz won third prize.

Second prize went to Marjorie Kyffin who did a beautiful painting.

Judy Pearse’s creative and humorous card won first prize.
