Sizzling fun at Thembalami Care Centre

The smell of the braai fire and beautiful winter sunshine lifted the spirits of the residents and staff of Rand Aid’s Thembalami Care Centre on May 22.

“Some of the residents mentioned that they were in the mood for ‘pap and vleis’ so we decided to have a braai,” says Elize Raath, the liaison officer of the Rand Aid centre, which cares for elders and incorporates the Max Ordman Deaf Association (MODA).

“There was no special occasion; we are just trying to arrange moments of fun to lighten the mood during the national lockdown. The chairs and tables were set up outside and music was played.

“All the staff were involved in organising the braai. Some cooked, some helped with the braai, others helped serve and clean up. Fresh spinach was picked from our food garden and delicious creamed spinach was prepared.

“It was a great team effort and enough was prepared to include the staff and thank them for their hard work,” says Elize.
