Volunteer entertainers needed for care centre

Calling all singers, dancers, drummers, magicians and other entertainers… are you able to spare an hour now and again to bring some colour into the lives of the elderly residents of a Lombardy-East care centre?

Rand Aid Association-run Thembalami Care Centre cares for elders who are physically or mentally frail and often financially vulnerable too; while the Max Ordman Deaf Association, based in Thembalami’s grounds, caters for the deaf.

The care centre hosts various events for its residents, including a monthly birthday bash, and is looking for entertainers who would like to volunteer their time to entertain the residents and help them have some fun.

“We are specifically looking for singers and musicians for our monthly birthday bash, as our residents love singing along to music,” says Esme van der Walt, Thembalami and MODA manager.

“Entertainers who do drumming – or use other vibrational sounds – will also be greatly appreciated by our deaf residents, as they are able to feel the vibration of the music,” she adds.

The care centre tries to host events for its residents as often as possible, to give them something to look forward to. Any form of entertainment, including performing school groups, will be appreciated.

If you are an entertainer and are willing to volunteer your time for the care centre’s monthly birthday bash or another event, call Esme van der Walt or Elize Raath at 010 534 8771 or send an email to evanderwalt@randaid.co.za or eraath@randaid.co.za
