Thembalami Care Centre

What makes Thembalami special?

Thembalami means ‘My Hope’ and this is a true reflection of what Rand Aid offers at this care centre, as residents have the opportunity to find new hope and meaning in a caring environment.

To create a homely atmosphere, residents bring items of personal or sentimental value, such as a favourite picture or even a comfortable chair. Visits by family and friends are welcomed at any time. We have regular family days to increase contact with loved ones and interaction amongst family members.

A beautiful lapa; paved walkways; manicured gardens, with water features; a fishpond; vegetable and herb garden; and scenic dam, with bird watching facilities, entices residents and their visitors to spend time outdoors. All these contribute to a sensory experience for residents, staff and visitors alike.

Residents are encouraged to remain active for as long as possible, therefore a range of activities, including regular outings, entertainment and participation in crafts and hobbies, are offered.

Facilities available for the comfort of residents are:
  • Inter-denominational chapel.
  • Library.
  • Transport to shops and amenities, which are in close proximity.
  • Hairdresser.
  • Visiting podiatrist by appointment.
  • Superette.
  • Dining room seating area.
  • Recreational activities area.
Thembalami is situated in spacious grounds on the northern boundary of Lombardy East, Gauteng.

Assist an Elder in need

Many of Thembalami’s residents only receive a government grant and there is often no family support or money for niceties. Their small pension and government subsidy barely cover their basic needs.

You can make a difference in these Elders’ lives by adopting a granny or making a donation towards their care.
