Birthday bash brings music and milestones to Thembalami Care Centre

Thembalami Care Centre and the Max Ordman Deaf Association marked a joyful birthday bash on January 21, celebrating the birthdays of three residents and 10 staff members.

According to Elize Raath, the deputy manager at Thembalami Care Centre, the monthly event honours decades of life milestones. “Our youngest birthday resident this month was Theunis de Bruin, who turned 69,” said Elize. “Marianne Venter celebrated her 80th, and our eldest birthday celebrant, Bettie Nieuwoudt, turned 83.”

The celebrations were brought to life by sponsored entertainer Ilana Jooste, who performed alongside her cousin, Andrew Laubscher. Ilana treated residents to a selection of mostly rock songs, which proved to be a hit with the audience.

“She didn’t only perform for the residents,” Elize added. “Ilana also sang I’m Alive especially for our staff members, which quickly got everyone up and dancing.”

Elize said the birthday bash once again lived up to its name. “The event was a success as usual and created a wonderful sense of togetherness for both residents and staff.”
