Petals and stories: Garden club delights members with floral showcase

Creativity and nostalgia filled the Elphin Lodge clubhouse on April 17, as residents gathered for the monthly meeting of the village’s garden club.

The highlight of the event was a flower-arranging demonstration by resident John Cowen. As he carefully crafted each arrangement, John shared anecdotes from his years creating floral displays for major corporations and clubs in Johannesburg.

The arrangements were later raffled off among attendees, adding a sense of excitement to the occasion. The afternoon concluded on a warm note with tea and a spread of delicious treats, giving members time to socialise and reflect on the demonstration.

Garden club member Lyn Cocking says the group offers a varied and engaging programme. “We’ve enjoyed a range of speakers, outings and hands-on activities, which keep things fresh and interesting for everyone,” she says. The Elphin Lodge Garden Club meets on the third Friday of every month at the clubhouse, and new members are always welcome.
