Books needed for Edenvale Child Welfare

Rand Aid’s Elphin Lodge retirement village is appealing to Rand Aid residents, who are able to do so, to donate children’s books to Edenvale Child Welfare.

Edenvale Child Welfare is in desperate need of books – for children aged three to six – for its library.

“Their books were destroyed by flooding, and Covid-19 impacted their budget,” says Elphin Lodge manager Helen Petrie.

Edenvale Child Welfare has Pinocchio Educare Centre on its premises, for low-income children.

“Reading to them and helping them develop a love of books will help them to develop many aspects of learning. This will assist each child to cope at school, when they leave our centre having completed Grade R,” says Jenny Kennedy, Edenvale Child Welfare’s office manager and administrator.

Edenvale Child Welfare is also in need of books for children aged seven to 14, for its outreach programme.

“Our outreach projects include offering counselling at schools, and we have found a great need to assist with building up their libraries. Many schools have limited resources or no library at all. These learners are aged between seven and 14, and they would love to have age appropriate books to read and help develop their communication and learning skills,” says Jenny.

Anyone who is able to support this worthwhile cause can drop the books off at Elphin Lodge security.

“We will collect books throughout April, and then drop them off at Edenvale Child Welfare at the end of the month,” says Helen.
