Wintery weather but a warm welcome characterised Ron Smith Care Centre’s spring celebration on September 20.
“Although spring has officially sprung, we faced cold, windy, weather on the day of our Spring Heritage Day celebration. That meant we had to move our celebration from the beautiful Woodlands outdoor garden area into the dining room,” says Debbie Christen, the care centre’s recreational and training services facilitator.
“Nevertheless, the event was cosy, colourful and joyful!”
International flags were strung from the ceiling, and pots of sunflowers and flags adorned the tables, which brought sunshine and good cheer to the indoor area.
The staff were decked out in their traditional costumes in all colours of the rainbow and represented the diverse African tribes and cultures of our nation and beyond. “They opened the programme with a lively cultural dance, which brought a spirit of energy and fun to the morning,” says Debbie.
“The rest of the entertainment programme was filled with a wonderful line dancing performance by the Rodeo Girls, Rodeo Club Dancers, and Boot Scootin SA, interspersed with Shams Muller singing a selection of well-known country rock songs. At one point, the dancers got everyone moving to the song Singin’ in the Rain,” she says.
“They also taught everyone how to do an easy line dance. All the singing, dancing, and interactive activities triggered happy smiles and laughter.”
Braaied chicken kebabs, pap tart, pumpkin muffins, and Greek salad were served and nicely rounded off with sticky toffee pudding and custard sauce.
