Rand Aid’s Elphin Lodge retirement village launched a book drive in April to help Edenvale Child Welfare re-stock its Pinocchio Educare Centre’s library after its books were damaged by flooding. Books will also be donated to Child Welfare’s outreach programme, which assists schools in need of books.
“The literacy drive was well supported by Elphin Lodge residents and employees, and Inyoni Creek residents, and we also received teddies and a variety of other things for the children at Edenvale Child Welfare,” says Elphin Lodge manager Helen Petrie.
Elphin Lodge residents, Carol Barker and Diego Sella, and volunteer, Marissa Sabato, joined the fun and went with Elphin Lodge staff to drop off the books and other donations at Edenvale Child Welfare on 16 May 2022.
Edenvale Child Welfare’s office manager and administrator Jenny Kennedy is grateful for the donations and says reading is so important for children and their early development. “Thank you to all of the residents and staff for their contribution to making this all possible.”
