Lunch with Santa and Three Tenors’ Chris

Rand Aid’s Thembalami Care Centre and Max Ordman Deaf Association’s Christmas lunch on December 13 was a jolly affair.

Community sponsors helped make the day extra special, with Avbob arranging that Chris Coetzer (Three Tenors) provide top-notch entertainment. His audience engagement enchanted residents and staff alike, says Thembalami manager Esme van der Walt. Local councillor Jo-Anne Horwitz donated balloons that added to the festive spirit in the dining hall.

Michelle Chelliah Singh from the Love, Light, Care Foundation sponsored chips, balloons, crackers, and lollies. She also brought a sleigh full of excitement by arriving with Santa (aka Mark Pillay), who posed for photos with the residents.

The decorations and hall set-up were done by the occupational therapy department, ably assisted by staff members.

“Thembalami Care Centre gave each resident a coffee mug bearing their name, plus its meaning. Each mug featured a different picture. Residents loved how their gifts were personalised and the name meanings sparked much chatter,” says Elize Raath, Thembalami’s deputy manager.
