Despite celebrating nine decades, Inyoni Creek resident Albert van Heerden still rides his motorbike to his workshop in Sebenza, where he has already restored six Morris Minors.
Albert celebrated his 90th birthday with 46 of his close friends and family members on March 7.
“Our daughter and great-granddaughter came out from Switzerland. We had a special lunch at the Inyoni Creek Clubhouse, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all,” says Albert.
A happy Inyoni Creek resident since 2007, Albert says when you drive into Inyoni it ‘feels like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders’.
While Albert enjoys woodwork and steelwork, his main hobby is refurbishing and reconstructing Morris Minors from scratch.
“I am rebuilding six Morris Minors. It’s a big job and a huge responsibility,” he says.
Albert has a son and daughter, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
“I am still very active; I cannot sit still. I was due to retire at 65, but the company asked me to stay a while. I finally retired at the age of 82.
“I have been riding my motorcycle to Sebenza to my workshop and back to refurbish Morris Minors for the past couple of years, and have travelled 26 000km on my motorcycle,” he says.
