Germiston’s Victoria Lake parkrun on Saturday, April 20, saw a heartwarming display of community spirit as a group of dedicated runners from Rand Aid Association’s retirement villages united for the weekly 5km event.
Among the participants were Neil Munro and Marinda Looyen from Inyoni Creek, along with Debbie Davies and her husband Ian, also Inyoni Creek residents – and their energetic husky companion, Shadow. Joining them was Debbie’s father, Desmond Green, a fellow parkrun enthusiast from Rand Aid’s Elphin Lodge.
The morning held extra significance for Ian, who remarkably completed his 250th parkrun. Undeterred by a long-haul flight from Australia, which landed at 5am that morning, Ian was determined to reach his milestone on home soil.
Collectively, this inspiring group boasts an impressive 1 105 parkruns completed. Neil Munro leads the pack with an outstanding 260 runs to his name.
