Ron Smith Care Centre’s mothers honoured in style

Ron Smith Care Centre joyfully celebrated all the mothers in its community on May 9.

The dining room was transformed for the occasion, with elegant black, white and pink décor. Residents made their entrance through a beautiful balloon arch, setting the tone for a heartwarming celebration.

The morning was filled with the beautiful sounds of tenor Chris Coetzee’s voice as he sang songs like Unforgettable by Nat King Cole, specifically for the mothers. Later, he had everyone feeling young at heart again with the song The Young Ones by Sir Cliff Richard. Those present clapped their hands and stamped their feet to the more upbeat songs.

He also took a moment to express his appreciation to the staff, and the dining room came alive with joyful singing and dancing as Chris and the staff members united to perform Shosholoza.

Chris ended the performance with a moving rendition of You Raise Me Up, which had everyone raising their arms and moving along to the music.

After all the celebration, residents enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee and delightful Danish pastries.

“On Sunday, the care centre’s mothers were once again celebrated with hazelnut-filled heart-shaped chocolates, as a small token of thanks for all they have done over the years,” says Simoné Botha, Ron Smith Care Centre’s manager: occupational therapy and recreation.
