Carols and Christmas cheer fill Inyoni Creek clubhouse

The Inyoni Creek clubhouse was alive with song, laughter and festive warmth on December 14, when residents gathered for a joyful bring-and-share carol afternoon that drew a full house and set the tone for the holiday season.

With voices raised in song and tables laden with home-made treats, the event was a celebration of community spirit and shared moments.

Residents sang much-loved carols accompanied on the piano by fellow Rand Aid residents Carmel Borland and Debby Davies, who were widely praised for pulling together a fresh, participatory format that had everyone involved.

Inyoni Creek village manager Jenny Tonkin says the afternoon captured exactly what village events are meant to be about.

“The event gave residents a wonderful opportunity to get into the festive spirit and spend quality time together,” Jenny says. “Events like these help ensure that everyone – from couples to our single residents – has the opportunity to get dressed, get out and connect with others. It’s about creating moments that make people feel included and uplifted.”

In a letter received from residents Nick and Deane Nicholas, heartfelt thanks were extended to the many people who contributed to the afternoon’s success. They singled out Carmel and Debby for ‘delivering such an enjoyable afternoon’, adding that the new resident-participation format was a resounding success – so popular, in fact, that there wasn’t a spare seat to be had.

The letter paid tribute to Peter Moore’s narration, saying his entertaining snippets of trivia added to the charm. Ian Davies was praised for ensuring the lyrics appeared on screen at just the right moments. The graphics, including a memorable animated Frosty the Snowman, were a particular highlight.

The letter also praised the Fellowship Group, led by John and Ann Hooper, along with their team of helpers who manned the busy beverage stations and tackled the formidable clean-up afterwards. Residents who brought food were thanked for their generosity, with the overflowing spread later shared with the kitchen staff, gate security and office staff.

“All in all, it was a wonderful start to Hanukkah and the Christmas festivities,” the letter concluded, capturing the sense of gratitude and togetherness felt throughout the afternoon.
