Rand Aid-run retirement village Inyoni Creek’s Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden (GOLF) social group recently enjoyed a fascinating glimpse into the history of South African electrical engineering innovation. They visited the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers’ (SAIEE) Max Clarke Museum in Observatory, Johannesburg, where they saw items such as a lightning recorder that was manufactured in 1905, the prototype Tellurometer invented in 1950, and an early X-ray tube (circa 1900). The visit was arranged and co-ordinated by Bill Bergman of Inyoni. Bill is a SAIEE Fellow. Pictured second from right (in red) is Prof Pat Naidoo of SAIEE, with members of the Inyoni Creek group. If you want to view this historical collection, call SAIEE at 011 487 3003 or visit www.saiee.org.za/DisplayCustomLink.aspx?name=Museum
