Ron Smith Care Centre launches festive competition

Ron Smith Care Centre is spreading holiday cheer with its ‘Best Christmas Spirit and Decorating Competition’. Open to all six wings of the care centre, the competition will be judged on various criteria, including planning, teamwork, leadership, creativity, resident and staff participation and overall Christmas spirit.
On December 11, a visit to the wings revealed a heartwarming scene on Lakeside. Sister Karin Engelbrecht and a group of residents and staff were busily stringing popcorn to decorate their Christmas tree. This nostalgic activity sparked fond memories among the residents, who recalled similar traditions from their past.
The following day, the wing’s festive atmosphere was further enhanced by soft Christmas music playing in the background. “It was evident that the Christmas spirit is alive and well on Lakeside,” says Debbie Christen, the care centre’s recreational and training services facilitator.
As the competition unfolds, it is anticipated that all wings will showcase their unique creativity and festive spirit.
Final judging will take place on December 17.
