Popcorn Day celebration ‘pops’ with fun at Thembalami

Although National Popcorn Day is marked on January19, Thembalami Care Centre and the Max Ordman Deaf Association delayed their celebration slightly – and on Friday, January 23, it still popped with fun.

Residents were treated to a special popcorn-and-movies day, with screenings held in different areas of the care centre. In the recreation centre, The Full Monty was shown for residents who enjoy a lively comedy.

Deputy manager Elize Raath, who selected the film, said it was chosen because of its humour, uplifting message and familiar soundtrack, which made it an enjoyable and easy-to-follow choice for residents.

At the Ibis memory care wing, residents watched the animated film Pup Academy.

Residents also received New Year gifts, including popcorn, chips, biscuits and cool drinks, adding to the festive atmosphere.

“The residents loved the experience and have already asked for more movie days,” says Elize.
