Flowers and goodwill bring smiles to Tarentaal Village residents

Valentine’s Day took on a heartwarming twist at Tarentaal Village this year, as elderly residents were treated to a surprise visit filled with flowers and cheer.

Madelie Olivey, owner of Iris Bloom Florist Atelier, arrived at the village on Saturday, February 14, bearing bouquets to spread goodwill. She was joined by her niece, Janessa Viljoen, and a friend, Marlene Nel, who helped deliver the thoughtful gestures.

According to Lynn Barrow, deputy village manager, Madelie was motivated by the thought that some residents might spend the day alone. “Many of our residents’ loved ones live overseas, so they don’t receive regular visits. Seeing Madelie arrive with flowers brought smiles and even tears to some faces,” Lynn says.

Despite Valentine’s Day being one of her busiest days of the year, Madelie worked through the night on Friday to ensure all her orders were fulfilled so she could spend time with the residents. Lynn added, “It was such a touching gesture and made the day feel extra special for everyone.”
