Thornhill Manor gardeners make the cut

Wendy Wright, the horticulturalist and owner of the Garden Gallery and Café in Edenvale, gave the members of Thornhill Manor retirement village’s garden club an inspiring demonstration on the art of propagating cuttings, leaving everyone eager to watch their own green thumbs grow.

The talk was followed by a walk around the nursery and ended with a sumptuous tea with scones and muffins.

The garden stall at the annual Thornhill Manor October fete is one of the most popular stalls and an important contributor to the village fund.

Club members are already hard at work propagating cuttings, collecting pots (large and small) and growing seeds and bulbs.

“Everything to do with gardens is sold at the stall – from bird baths to pots, bird feeders and a wide variety of plants,” said Vicky Keenan, who co-ordinates the activities of the garden club.

Vicky invites all residents interested in gardening to join the club, which meets monthly. Activities include sharing plants and gardening tips, painting stones that are placed around the village and outings to places of interest.
