Staying active, one stretch at a time

Chair exercises may sound gentle, and while they are safe and accessible, they can still provide a surprisingly good workout.

Estelle Truter has residents of Inyoni Creek and Thornhill Manor stretching, twisting and bending – all to improve core strength, balance and flexibility.

She offers mat or chair exercise classes at 9am on Tuesdays at Thornhill Manor, yoga at Inyoni Creek on Mondays at 2:30pm, and chair exercises at Inyoni at 10:30am on Tuesdays.

Although fewer people attend her classes in winter, she encourages older adults to keep moving during the colder months to help combat stiffness.

“I love teaching my seniors because they’re so willing to improve; they are dedicated and try so hard,” she says.

A small monthly fee is charged for the classes. Anyone is welcome to come along and join in.
