After more than six years of caring for residents at Thornhill Manor, the village’s much-loved sister is preparing to step away from the role she has held since December 2019.
Reflecting on her time at the village, Joanne Bosman says what stood out most was being part of a close-knit and community-focused environment that built meaningful relationships.
“Nursing in this environment reinforced that we are all individuals with different personal and medical needs, and that learning never ends,” she says.
While retiring from her nursing position, she will not be moving far, having already settled into a cottage in Thornhill Estate nearby.
Her advice to residents for maintaining their well-being is simple: Invest in good nutrition, keep active, spend time outdoors, enjoy time with friends and don’t sweat the small stuff.
Looking ahead, she says retirement will not mean slowing down. She plans to spend more time with family and hopes to continue helping others through volunteering or other meaningful activities.
She also expressed gratitude to Rand Aid for the opportunity to serve as village nurse, saying the organisation’s motto, ‘Assist, Alleviate, Accompany’, reflected what she experienced throughout her years in the role.
Joanne will end this chapter of her life at the end of August, when she officially steps down.
