Austrian flair brings Elphin Lodge residents together

The flavours, music and colours of Austria transported Elphin Lodge residents to the Alps for a day of good food and even better company.

About 40 people gathered at the retirement village’s Elphino’s coffee shop on October 27 for an Austrian-themed event arranged by the village’s entertainment committee.

The coffee shop received a festive Austrian makeover, with red-and-white check tablecloths, Austrian greetings on cards placed on the tables and the Austrian flag adding to the atmosphere.

Austrian music played as residents enjoyed apple strudel and cream, accompanied by their choice of hot beverage.

Long tables encouraged residents to sit together and socialise. “It was a relaxing time and everyone enjoyed themselves,” says Wanda de Groot of Elphino’s.

The next themed event is planned for the first quarter of the new year.
