Some members from Thornhill Manor’s Happy Chatters Walkers occupational therapy group recently joined in the fun at Ron Smith Care Centre’s (RSCC) daycare centre, baking and decorating cupcakes with different coloured icing and a variety of delicious toppings.
“Best of all, everyone thoroughly enjoyed eating them afterwards,” says Karen Griesel, Thornhill Manor’s social worker.
“Our residents enjoyed meeting and socialising with RSCC’s residents, and some of them even had their nails done,” she adds.
Started four years ago by occupational therapist and Thornhill Manor resident Vicky Keenan, Happy Chatters sees residents enjoying a weekly walk and treats, followed by various creative and fun occupational therapy activities.
After their visit to RSCC, the group went to Elphino’s coffee shop at Elphin Lodge retirement village, where they and their caregivers enjoyed a lovely lunch.
“The whole exercise lifted our residents’ and their caregivers’ spirits. Thank you to RSCC’s OT team, managed by Marle Grabe, and the care centre’s staff for hosting us,” says Karen.
