SANCA Wedge Gardens’ clients are learning to sew, as part of the substance use treatment centre’s occupational therapy programme.
The centre’s occupational therapist Caryn Berman says some clients asked if they could be taught how to use a sewing machine.
She cut out material for them and taught them how to thread the machine and do simple, straight sewing
“They sewed a small bag, that can hold a few items, such as glasses or a cellphone. Those who took part completed their bags in one session and proudly left with his bag,” says Caryn.
“In our next session, we will make bigger bags to carry a laptop of their lecture notes,” she adds.
