Happy chatting – and walking and playing – for six years!

Six years of fun occupational therapy activities in a social environment were celebrated on September 16 when Thornhill Manor’s Happy Chatters group turned six. Started by resident Vicky Keenan, the group promotes active bodies and minds.

Vicky organises walks around the village and stimulating games while fostering socialisation and support for residents and caregivers. Gatherings are held on Monday mornings and allow for happy chatting over tea and treats.

“Occupational therapy games play a crucial role in improving the well-being and overall quality of life for older individuals. Vicky’s games are designed to address physical and cognitive challenges that older people may face, and improve overall mental well-being,” says village social worker Karen Griessel.

“The positive effects of games on depression symptoms can be attributed to the engagement, social interaction, and sense of achievement they provide,” she says.
