Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, said that, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
Members of Inyoni Creek’s art group have discovered this truth for themselves. They forget life’s troubles every Thursday when they meet at the village clubhouse to paint, draw or sculpt in the company of like-minded people.
“Art is therapeutic,” says village manager Jenny Tonkin. “It relieves stress and gives an outlet for emotional expression.”
There is no cost to participate – but members must supply their own materials. However, should people be keen to try their hand at painting but want some pointers, they can sign up for an optional beginner’s class. It is held every second week and costs R50 a session.
“Pop in to see what’s happening and find out how to get started,” advises Jenny.
Tea and coffee are served, and members bring cakes and cookies to share.
