When Ron Smith Care Centre resident Lorraine Lowdon celebrated her 80th birthday in April, during the coronavirus lockdown, Sr Leanie Bessinger, the Charge Sister on River Lodge 1, made sure that all Lorraine’s loved ones were able to join in on the fun. “I downloaded an application on my phone called Houseparty, a video call app, which enabled all of Lorraine’s family to join in. I had approximately eight family members on my phone who joined in when we sang happy birthday to her. Lorraine could see them and they could see her. After we sang, each family member gave her a personal birthday wish. It was a very special moment as the family could see her on her birthday,” says Sr Leanie.
