Hot water for prem babies, thanks to a Rand Aid Mandela Month project

Elphin Lodge Retirement Village and the Ron Smith Care Centre’s (RSCC) Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital Mandela Month Project culminated in the handover of a 200-litre geyser on October 10.

Neeri Stroebel of Elphin Lodge says the funds were donated and raised through raffles.

The geyser will be installed in the hospital’s Kangaroo Mother Care Unit.

Earlier in the year, at a meeting between an Elphin Lodge and RSCC team and paediatrician Prof Keith Bolton, it emerged that the unit did not have hot water. Changing this became the core focus of this Mandela Month project. In addition, a care pack, blanket, and hand-knitted teddy were handed to each mother in the unit on July 26, and the hospital’s Willow therapy room was revamped, thanks to Elphin Lodge residents Colin and Linde Cocking and their friends.
