In the festive spirit of Christmas, residents and staff at Ron Smith Care Centre (RSCC) gathered on December 19 to share in a special celebration of community, joy and togetherness.
“Residents and staff came together in their respective wings to enjoy a festive Christmas High Tea filled with joy, laughter and togetherness,” says Simoné Botha, the centre’s occupational therapy and recreation manager.
“Tables were beautifully decorated in red and gold, and everyone embraced the spirit of the day by dressing in red, white and green,” she says.
The morning began with cheerful Christmas music and a lively game of Pass the Parcel, which had everyone smiling and engaged. A gift wrapped in multiple layers was passed around the room and could only be opened by the person holding it when the music stopped. Along the way, there were a few fun surprises, with the final winners walking away with a delicious box of chocolates to enjoy over the festive season.

The celebrations continued with tea and coffee, along with a box of sweet and savoury treats for each resident, lovingly prepared by Reef Caterers.
While Friday marked the main Christmas celebration, the festive spirit had been alive at RSCC for weeks beforehand, says Simoné. “The annual Christmas Spirit Competition encouraged each wing to decorate and bring its own unique holiday flair. This year, a few mischievous elves also appeared throughout RSCC, delighting residents and staff alike. The elves were named by residents and staff, with winning names announced on Friday, including Long Legs, Spicy Pants, Elphie Elf, Jelly Tot and Happy Joe.”
Winners of the Christmas Spirit Competition:
