Many a former Jeppe High School for Boys pupil will recall the name Yvonne Yardley, who was a secretary at the school for a whopping 23 years.
Quick to smile, the long-time Johannesburg resident joined the 90s club on 3 August and received many well wishes from fellow villagers and management of Inyoni Creek, the Rand Aid retirement village she has called home for 13 years.
“I was one of the first people to move into the village when it was built,” remembers Yvonne, who says she loves living there, mainly because the ‘gardens are beautiful and spacious’.
She was married to Donald Yardley for an inspirational 65 years and the couple had four children – three daughters and a son, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. “Plus there are another two on the way,” she shares. Sadly, she lost a grandson at a very young age.
Yvonne loves knitting, embroidering and gardening
Born in Cradock, she moved first to George and then to Johannesburg as a child. She went to Jeppe Girls and her husband went to Jeppe Boys – ‘and that is how we met’.
