Beautiful hand-made items and yummy baked treats were sold with pride by the residents of Thembalami Care Centre and the Max Ordman Deaf Association (MODA) at their sunshine-filled fete on October 28.
Care centre manager Esme van der Walt says having a fete was the residents’ idea.
Deputy manager Elize Raath adds that Thembalami’s occupational therapy (OT) department buzzed with activity over the past months as the residents prepared the items they planned to exhibit.
Everyone’s hard work paid off and on fete day, the OT table was laden with hand-painted bags, earrings, armbands, tablecloths, knitted and crocheted beanies, bedsocks and baby blankets.
“MODA residents’ table was stocked with home-baked biscuits, fudge and the most beautiful and colourful crocheted Christmas trees,” says Elize.
“The staff manned the food, clothing, and white elephant stalls. We also had a few stalls from outside, which contributed to a festive occasion.
“Thank you to our family members and friends who brought and baked cakes, the staff for their hard work, the residents’ loved ones for their support and a special thanks to the members of the public who supported us.”
